Sourcing concrete chamber rings from China

Precast concrete inspection chamber rings from China carry 0% UK duty under the relevant lines of heading 6810. For a CE route, manufacturers must prepare a declaration of performance where a harmonised standard or European Technical Assessment applies. Cambridge China Bridge sources precast concrete inspection chamber rings.

Zero duty on concrete chamber rings

Heading 6810 covers articles of cement, concrete or artificial stone, whether reinforced or not. For inspection chamber rings, consider the prefabricated structural-components line and the other-articles line. The table separates buying variants that can share a commodity code; it does not imply a separate tariff line for each ring design.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, all supplied lines carried 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duties, suspensions or attached import controls. That tariff position does not establish construction-product compliance.

Give your broker the material, reinforcement details, drawings and intended civil-engineering use to confirm the commodity code. For the wider product family, see precast concrete drainage channels.

Specify the ring, joint and installed use

Agree internal diameter, ring height, wall thickness, dimensional tolerances, joint profile and gasket arrangement on drawings. Specify pipe-opening positions, reinforcement, step fittings if included, unit weight and lifting details. Match the ring to the intended base and cover slab rather than ordering by nominal diameter alone.

CE marking remains available for construction products supplied in Great Britain. Under that route, manufacturers of products covered by a harmonised standard or with a European Technical Assessment must draw up a declaration of performance. Ask the supplier to identify the applicable route and provide product-specific performance documents before approving production.

Agree evidence for load resistance and joint watertightness appropriate to the installation with the project designer. Have the designer review the declared performance against the intended use; a marking alone does not resolve joint compatibility or project suitability.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative shipment of 60 precast concrete inspection chamber rings under 6810 91 00 00, invoiced at £15,000 free on board, with £3,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £18,000. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £18,000, so it is £3,600. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Dimensions and fit: measure the bore, height, wall thickness and joint profile against approved drawings; trial-stack rings with the specified gasket, base and cover interface.

Concrete and reinforcement: check for cracks, honeycombing, exposed steel and damaged joint edges; compare reinforcement and concrete test records with the approved specification.

Openings and lifting: check pipe holes, step fittings and lifting inserts against drawings; confirm unit weights and obtain the supplier's handling instructions.

Documents and arrival: match product identifiers to performance documents and production records. Photograph chips, cracks, displaced packing and damaged joint faces before unloading further. Use a product-specific inspection brief.

What goes wrong

A ring can have the correct nominal diameter but fail to seat on the buyer's base because the joint profile differs. Chipped sealing faces, distorted gasket grooves and misplaced pipe openings can turn an apparently acceptable delivery into site rework. Approve a trial assembly and record joint dimensions before shipment.

Heavy rings can arrive with lifting damage, cracked walls or crushed joint edges after poor blocking and restraint. Specify supports that protect sealing faces, photograph loading and agree arrival rejection criteria. Keep performance-document checks separate from the physical acceptance inspection.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on concrete chamber rings from China?

The supplied tariff record shows 0% under 6810 91 00 00 and 6810 99 00 00, with no listed trade remedies. Confirm which line fits the ring's construction and intended use.

Can CE-marked concrete chamber rings be sold in Great Britain?

CE marking remains available for construction products in Great Britain. Check the applicable conformity route and product-specific performance documents before buying.

Will Chinese chamber rings fit my existing bases?

Do not assume compatibility from nominal diameter. Compare joint drawings and gasket details, then trial-assemble the ring with the intended base and cover interface.

What should I check when concrete chamber rings arrive?

Check cracks, honeycombing, exposed reinforcement, joint-edge damage, pipe-opening positions and lifting inserts. Match identifiers to documents and photograph damage before installation.
