Sourcing oil boilers from China
Oil-fired central heating boilers from China carry 2% UK duty, while boiler parts carry 0%. Confirm applicable ecodesign efficiency, nitrogen oxide and energy-labelling requirements with the relevant authority, including for models up to 70 kW. Match the evidence to the boiler and burner supplied. Cambridge China Bridge sources oil-fired central heating boilers.

2% duty on complete boilers, 0% on parts
Heading 8403 covers central heating boilers other than those of heading 8402. For oil-fired models, the complete-boiler lines distinguish cast iron from other materials; separate boiler parts have their own lines. See the wider central heating boiler guide for the heading overview.
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, complete boilers from China carry 2% duty and boiler parts 0%. The supplied tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspensions or attached import controls for these lines. Product compliance still needs checking before sale.
Confirm the commodity code using the boiler's function, construction and shipment contents. Ask your customs broker to check separately supplied burners and accessories rather than treating everything in the order as boiler parts.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cast iron oil-fired central heating boilers | 8403 10 10 00 | 2% | None |
| Other oil-fired central heating boilers | 8403 10 90 00 | 2% | None |

Specify the oil burner and heating circuit
Specify the intended fuel, rated heat output, heat exchanger material, condensing design, heating-only or combination operation, and indoor or outdoor location. Record the burner make, nozzle specification, oil pump, ignition controls and flame detection arrangement. Agree water connections, operating pressure, flue components, condensate drainage and access for cleaning.
Confirm with the relevant authority whether the space-heater ecodesign requirements of Regulation 813/2013 apply to the proposed boilers up to 400 kW, including seasonal efficiency and nitrogen oxide emissions, and whether models up to 70 kW need an energy label under Regulation 811/2013. Request reports for the exact boiler and burner combination. A declaration of conformity must be supported by technical documentation; energy labels and product fiches also need supporting documentation.
Have the intended installer review the flue layout, oil supply arrangement, controls and servicing access before ordering. Agree which burner, pump and controller replacements will be available, and obtain installation, commissioning and maintenance instructions in English.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 40 oil-fired central heating boilers under 8403 10 90 00, invoiced at £28,000 free on board, with £4,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £32,000. Duty at 2% is £640. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £32,640, so it is £6,528. Import taxes total £7,168; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £640 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Burner and combustion: have a competent technician test sampled boilers with the specified fuel, recording ignition, flame-loss shutdown, oil leaks and flue-gas results against the agreed model documentation.
Water circuit: check heat exchanger joints, pressure-test records, pump operation and safety controls. Inspect castings for cracks and connections for transport damage.
Documents and identification: match the boiler and burner model numbers to the declaration, efficiency and emissions reports, energy label and product fiche. Check the supplied manuals and wiring diagrams.
Arrival and packing: inspect casing panels, flue seals, condensate fittings and burner mounts after unpacking. Confirm that accessories and agreed spares arrived, and record damage before moving units into stock.

What goes wrong
A report for a different burner does not establish the performance of the delivered assembly. Substituted nozzles, oil pumps or controllers can change combustion behaviour. Missing flue components, unsuitable condensate arrangements and inaccessible cleaning points can also leave an otherwise complete boiler difficult to install or service.
Make component substitutions subject to buyer approval, retain an agreed sample specification and match inspection records to the shipment. Arrange the installation route before sale. In England, a boiler installer registered with an appropriate competent person scheme can self-certify compliance with building standards.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on oil-fired boilers from China?
Complete oil-fired central heating boilers carry 2% duty; boiler parts carry 0%. The tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty.
Do oil-fired boilers need an energy label?
Confirm with the relevant authority whether the proposed models up to 70 kW need an energy label under Regulation 811/2013. Match the label and product fiche to the exact model and its supporting technical documentation.
What should I check about the oil burner?
Confirm the fuel, burner make, nozzle, oil pump and flame detection controls. Request combustion and efficiency evidence for the exact boiler and burner combination supplied.
Can a registered installer self-certify boiler installation?
In England, a boiler installer registered with an appropriate competent person scheme can self-certify that the work complies with building standards. Check the installer's scope before ordering.
