Sourcing motorcycle inner tubes from China

Motorcycle inner tubes from China fall under the other rubber inner tubes line, with UK duty at 0% and no trade remedies recorded. Tubes sold for consumer use must be safe for their intended use; check tyre fit, valve geometry and air retention before accepting a batch. Cambridge China Bridge sources motorcycle inner tubes.

Duty on motorcycle inner tubes

Heading 4013 covers rubber inner tubes. Motorcycle inner tubes belong in the other category, 4013 90 00 00. The table shows purchasing variants sharing that tariff line, rather than separate commodity lines. For the wider bicycle tyre and tube range, see bicycle tyres, tubes and parts.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 24 October 2026, the supplied tariff record shows 0% duty for goods from China on this line. It records no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspensions or attached import controls. Import VAT is separate from customs duty.

Confirm the classification against the actual goods and their intended use before ordering. Give your customs broker the tube specification and product photographs, and use finding your commodity code.

Specify tyre fit and valve geometry

List the intended tyre sizes and rim applications for each tube. Agree the rubber compound, wall thickness, valve stem length, valve angle and valve position. Include a drawing showing the valve base and supplied fittings. Approve samples in the intended tyre and rim assembly, rather than accepting a catalogue description as proof of fit.

Consumer products fall within Great Britain's general product safety framework. As with the separately sold components described in our bicycle guide, the product must be safe for its intended use. Ask for test reports identifying the actual tube construction, tested sizes, test conditions and results. This safety discussion concerns Great Britain; check the destination separately for other markets.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 500 motorcycle inner tubes under 4013 90 00 00, invoiced at £6,000 free on board, with £1,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £7,500. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £7,500, so it is £1,500. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Fit and identification: compare size markings and cartons with the order, then trial-fit samples in the intended tyre and rim. Check that the tube sits without folds and the valve aligns with the rim hole.

Valve and seams: inspect the valve base, stem, core and joined areas for cracks, lifting rubber and uneven bonding. Check the supplied caps and fittings against the approved sample.

Air retention: agree an inflation and leak-test procedure suited to the assembled application. Check the valve core, valve base and seams for leakage, and record pressure retention against the agreed acceptance criteria.

Batch records: match tube and packaging references to inspection results and supplier records. Keep photographs and retained samples so a complaint can be traced to the delivered batch. See quality inspection explained.

What goes wrong

A broad size claim can hide poor fit in the buyer's actual tyre. An unsuitable valve angle can make inflation awkward or put strain on the valve base. Leakage may come from the core, the rubber-to-valve bond or a weak seam. Inspect delivered batches against the approved construction and fitted sample.

Your responsibility for product safety continues after the product reaches the market. Keep incoming inspection results alongside customer complaints, and investigate repeated pressure loss or valve failures before accepting further batches.
