Sourcing men's woven nightshirts from China
Men's woven nightshirts from China carry a flat 12% UK import duty across cotton, man-made fibres and other textile materials. Adult nightshirts must carry the prescribed fire label, and fibre content must be labelled accurately. Check fit and shrinkage against the approved sample. Cambridge China Bridge sources men's woven nightshirts.

A flat 12% duty on woven nightshirts
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 2 October 2026, men's woven nightshirts within heading 6207 carried 12% duty from China across cotton, man-made fibres and other textile materials. Heading 6207 also covers woven underwear, pyjamas and robes. See the wider men's woven nightwear guide.
The nightshirt lines show no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspension or attached import control. Elsewhere in the heading, codes 6207 99 90 91 and 6207 99 90 99 have CITES import and export controls. If your order includes those other articles, confirm the applicable requirements with your customs broker.
Confirm the commodity code using the garment's construction and fibre composition. Cotton poplin and cotton flannel share the cotton nightshirt code, so they appear separately in the table for buying purposes. Knitted nightshirts fall outside this woven heading.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Men's cotton poplin woven nightshirts | 6207 21 00 00 | 12% | None |
| Men's woven nightshirts of man-made fibres | 6207 22 00 00 | 12% | None |
| Men's woven nightshirts of other textile materials | 6207 29 00 00 | 12% | None |
Specify the nightshirt, fabric and labels
Specify adult men's sizing, fabric construction, fibre composition, fabric weight, finish and colour. Define chest width, shoulder width, sleeve length, garment length and neck opening, with agreed measurement tolerances. Show the collar, button placket, pockets, side slits and hem on the approved sample.
Adult nightshirts must carry the prescribed fire label under the Nightwear (Safety) Regulations 1985. Confirm with the relevant authority the appropriate fire-label wording and any permitted alternatives for the fabric's flammability performance. Fibre content must be labelled; confirm the appropriate fibre names with the relevant authority. Agree label artwork before production, and provide care instructions and sizes.
Agree the finished measurements after washing according to the proposed care instructions. Compare poplin for seam opening and flannel for surface shedding, colour transfer and shrinkage. Keep a signed sample of the fabric, garment and labels for bulk comparison.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 500 men's cotton poplin woven nightshirts; illustrative FOB value and freight under 6207 21 00 00, invoiced at £5,000 free on board, with £800 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £5,800. Duty at 12% is £696. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £6,496, so it is £1,299.20. Import taxes total £1,995.20; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £696 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Fit: measure garments across the ordered sizes, including chest, sleeves, neck opening and length; compare before and after the agreed wash.
Fabric: compare fibre composition, weight, colour and handle with the approved sample; check washed fabric for shrinkage, colour transfer and shedding.
Construction: check placket alignment, button attachment, buttonholes, pocket corners and side-slit reinforcement; look for seam opening and loose threads.
Labels: check the prescribed fire label, fibre content, size and agreed care instructions against approved artwork. Include these checks in your inspection brief.

What goes wrong
A nightshirt can match the sample before washing but become too short or tight afterwards. Plackets can twist, buttons can loosen and smooth woven fabric can open along seams. Compare washed bulk garments with the approved measurements before accepting the shipment.
Factories can reuse daytime-shirt label artwork or substitute fabric without updating the fibre declaration. Check the bulk fabric and attached labels together. A fire label selected for the sample should not be accepted automatically after a fabric change; confirm the appropriate wording before release.
Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For own-brand ranges, see sourcing for brands.
