Sourcing instant wheat noodles from China
Instant wheat noodles have standard UK duties of 6% plus £8.10 to £20 per 100 kg on the prepared noodle lines shown. A conditional suspension lists 0%; do not assume a noodle-and-sachet preparation qualifies. Animal ingredients need import eligibility checks. Cambridge China Bridge sources instant wheat noodles.

Duty depends on preparation and suspension eligibility
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, heading 1902 covers pasta and noodles, whether cooked or otherwise prepared. The table selects prepared noodle lines, distinguishing dried goods from other preparations and recipes containing rice. These are classification candidates, not a ruling for every instant noodle pack.
For China, these lines list standard duty of 6% plus £20 per 100 kg for dried preparations, or 6% plus £8.10 per 100 kg for other preparations. They also list a 0.00% autonomous suspension, with a footnote excluding mixtures, preparations or products made up of different components containing these products. No anti-dumping or countervailing duty is recorded. Have the broker confirm suspension eligibility for the noodle block and sachets together.
The tariff attaches organic and genetically modified organism controls, and veterinary control to several selected lines. Organic imports from China require a certificate of inspection for each consignment. For rice ingredients, confirm the attached control with your customs broker. Animal ingredients require recipe-specific eligibility and document checks. Confirm the commodity code using the complete recipe and manufacturing process. See the wider pasta and noodles guide.

Specify the noodle block and every sachet
Specify wheat flour, any rice ingredients, egg content, noodle thickness, fried or air-dried processing, frying oil, seasoning recipe and separate oil or garnish sachets. Agree cooked texture, preparation instructions, pack format, moisture protection and shelf-life evidence against an approved sample.
Confirm food-business registration and English label requirements with the relevant local authority before importing. Review the food name, ingredients with allergens emphasised, net quantity, dates, storage conditions and UK address as part of that check. Check the seasoning ingredients and allergens as carefully as the noodle block. A meat flavour name does not establish whether the recipe contains animal material.
For animal ingredients, check applicable approved-country and establishment conditions before ordering. Ask your customs broker or the relevant border authority to confirm any health certificate, pre-notification and border-check requirements, and whether the recipe and processing qualify for an exemption. Exempt composite products must still travel with the exporter's commercial document.
Inspection checklist
Recipe: compare production records and sachet specifications with the approved formula, including wheat, egg, soya, sesame and any animal ingredients.
Noodles: check breakage, moisture, cooked texture and frying-oil odour against the agreed sample; obtain batch test results relevant to the recipe.
Packs: check cup lids, pouch seals and sachet leaks; weigh contents and inspect cartons for crushing or dampness on arrival.
Labels: compare English ingredients, emphasised allergens, dates, storage instructions and UK address with approved artwork; match batch codes to production records.
What goes wrong
The block can match the sample while a substituted seasoning sachet changes allergens or animal ingredients. Fried noodles can develop rancid odours, leaking sachets stain cartons, and damaged moisture barriers shorten usable shelf life. Approve the full pack, retain batch samples and check arrival condition before releasing stock.
Costing can also fail when the buyer treats the listed suspension as unconditional. Resolve the exact pack's classification and suspension footnote before placing the order, particularly where noodles, powder, oil and garnish are sold together.
Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For repeat volumes, see container programmes.
