Sourcing high-voltage fuse cutouts from China

High-voltage fuse cutouts from China carry 2% UK duty, with no trade remedy or suspension on the fuse line. Match the supplied design and ratings to test evidence and obtain the network operator's acceptance before connection. Cambridge China Bridge sources high-voltage fuse cutouts.

UK duty on high-voltage fuse cutouts

Heading 8535 covers switching and protection apparatus for voltages exceeding 1,000 V. The supplied fuse line is 8535 10 00 90. The table includes that line and companion isolating switches and surge-protection equipment; these companion products are separate goods, not alternative classifications for a fuse cutout.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 5 November 2026, the fuse line carries 2% duty for goods from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measure and no suspension recorded. The tariff attaches a fluorinated-greenhouse-gas import control and a mercury export control. Products containing regulated fluorinated gas must be labelled. Confirm the applicable declaration and any mercury-related requirement with your customs broker against the actual materials and design.

Send the datasheet, rated voltage, operating description and details of what is supplied to your broker to confirm the commodity code. A suspension shown against companion surge-protection equipment is not a suspension for fuse cutouts. See the wider high-voltage switchgear guide for other apparatus.

Specify the cutout and fuse link together

Specify rated voltage, continuous current, fault-interruption duty, insulation material, creepage distance and the intended outdoor environment. Agree the mounting drawing, terminal conductor range, fuse-holder dimensions and fuse-link characteristics. State whether links, brackets and operating accessories are included. Ask the factory to identify whether the design contains any fluorinated gas.

Match type-test reports to the exact cutout design, insulation and ratings being purchased. Confirm the network operator's acceptance route before ordering. For AC cutouts above 1,000 V, the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 voltage scope does not apply; this does not establish suitability for a network. Arrange an evidence review through testing and certification support.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: 40 high-voltage fuse cutouts, illustrative order under 8535 10 00 90, invoiced at £4,000 free on board, with £1,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £5,000. Duty at 2% is £100. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £5,100, so it is £1,020. Import taxes total £1,120; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £100 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Identity: match model markings, ratings, drawings and batch records to the approved sample and test reports.

Insulation: inspect porcelain for cracks and chips, or polymer housings for damage; compare dimensions and creepage features with the agreed drawing.

Mechanism: check fuse-holder seating, hinge alignment, latch engagement and drop-out movement against the agreed inspection procedure.

Connections and packing: check terminal hardware, conductor fit, included links and brackets, corrosion protection and supports that prevent insulators moving in transit.

What goes wrong

A fuse holder can look interchangeable while its contacts, hinge or link attachment differ. Treat incomplete seating, unreliable latching, damaged insulation and mismatched links as defects to investigate before acceptance. Keep an approved assembly and drawing available for comparison.

Test evidence can cover a different rating or construction from the shipment. Check report photographs and model details against the supplied assembly, and record any material or design substitution before shipment. Network acceptance and a passing visual inspection answer different questions.

Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For components and parts, see sourcing for manufacturers.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on fuse cutouts from China?

The supplied fuse line, 8535 10 00 90, carries 2% duty, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measure and no suspension recorded.

Do high-voltage fuse cutouts need UKCA marking?

AC cutouts above 1,000 V are outside the voltage scope of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. Confirm the requirements for the actual assembly; network acceptance remains a separate check.

Can I use any fuse link in a Chinese cutout?

Specify the link characteristics and attachment dimensions with the cutout. Check compatibility against the approved assembly and drawings rather than relying on appearance.

What should I check before accepting delivery?

Check model and rating identity, insulation damage, fuse-holder seating, latching, terminals, included accessories and packing. Match the shipment to the approved drawings and test evidence.
