Sourcing high-silicon cast iron anodes from China
High-silicon cast iron anode castings from China have 0% ordinary UK duty if classified under the relevant other cast iron line. Confirm the code for the supplied form and ensure products supplied for workplace use are safe. Cambridge China Bridge sources high-silicon cast iron anodes.

Anode castings: confirm the line before importing
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, heading 7325 covers other cast articles of iron or steel. For bare high-silicon anode castings made from non-malleable cast iron, 7325 10 00 99 is a candidate code. The table shows different casting shapes under this same candidate line, rather than separate tariff categories.
The supplied snapshot gives 0% ordinary duty for Chinese goods under both 7325 10 00 99 and the other cast iron line 7325 99 10 90. Neither lists anti-dumping duty, countervailing duty, a suspension, a steel measure or an attached import control. The heading's 38.10% residual anti-dumping duty concerns specified ground-system covers and access articles. See the wider castings guide.
The commodity code must appear on the import declaration. Give your customs broker the alloy specification, drawing, intended function and details of any fitted cable or backfill before confirming classification. Use finding your commodity code. Ordinary duty of 0% does not remove import VAT; the standard rate is 20%. See UK import duty and VAT.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solid rod high-silicon anode castings, of non-malleable cast iron | 7325 10 00 99 | 0% | None |
Specify the alloy, anode body and connection
Send the foundry a drawing and an alloy specification, including permitted silicon content and any chromium addition. State whether you want bare castings or finished anodes with cable connections. Specify body dimensions, tubular wall thickness where relevant, connection recesses, cable construction, joint sealing and the intended installation environment.
Ask for melt chemistry linked to the casting batch and agree how casting soundness and connection quality will be tested. Have the cathodic protection designer approve the proposed alloy and installation arrangement. Ask for evidence supporting any claimed current output, consumption rate or service life for the intended conditions.
Products supplied as work equipment must be safe. Request handling and installation information covering the casting, connection and any supplied assembly. If solid wood crates or pallets are used for imports into Great Britain, the packaging must meet the international phytosanitary wood-packaging standard.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: 500 solid rod anode castings; illustrative order, subject to classification confirmation under 7325 10 00 99, invoiced at £30,000 free on board, with £4,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £34,000. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £34,000, so it is £6,800. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Alloy and traceability: match melt chemistry reports, batch identifiers and supplied castings to the agreed alloy specification.
Casting body: measure dimensions, wall thickness and mass against the drawing; inspect for cracks, chipped ends, shrinkage cavities and agreed casting defects.
Connection: where fitted, check cable identification, joint security, electrical continuity and sealing using the agreed test method.
Arrival condition: inspect restraints, separators and connection protection before unloading; record damaged castings and compare the consignment with the packing list. Include these checks in the inspection brief.

What goes wrong
A casting can match the outline drawing while its chemistry or internal soundness differs from the order. Surface inspection alone cannot establish the condition inside the body. A loose connection or damaged seal can undermine an otherwise acceptable casting, so approve the connection design and production test method alongside the iron specification.
Unsupported service-life claims, missing batch records and packaging that lets castings strike each other leave the buyer with problems that are difficult to resolve after installation. Agree acceptance criteria before production and inspect the goods before shipment and on arrival.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on high-silicon cast iron anodes from China?
The supplied snapshot shows 0% ordinary duty under the relevant other cast iron lines, with no listed trade remedy. Confirm the code for your supplied product. Standard import VAT is 20%.
Which commodity code should I use for high-silicon anodes?
7325 10 00 99 is a candidate for bare non-malleable cast iron anode castings. Give your broker the alloy, drawing and supplied form, including any cable or backfill, before confirming the code.
What should I ask the anode foundry to provide?
Ask for batch-linked melt chemistry, approved drawings, casting inspection records and connection test results where a cable is fitted. Agree the acceptance criteria with your cathodic protection designer.
How do I check anodes when they arrive?
Check batch identity, dimensions, cracks and chipped ends. For connected anodes, inspect cable damage, joint security and seals. Photograph transit damage and compare quantities with the packing list.
