Sourcing hi-fi FM tuners from China

The selected hi-fi FM tuner variants carry 0% UK duty from China, with no listed trade remedies. Broadcast receivers fall under the Radio Equipment Regulations 2017: settle safety, electromagnetic compatibility, spectrum evidence and CE or UKCA marking before sale in Great Britain. Cambridge China Bridge sources hi-fi FM tuners.

Zero duty on the selected tuner variants

Heading 8527 covers radio-broadcast reception apparatus, including receivers combined with sound recording or reproduction or a clock. For a standalone hi-fi FM tuner, start with 8527 99 00 00 and confirm the complete unit's functions. The other rows cover clock, sound-combination and battery-capable variants; they are alternatives determined by the actual design.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, all selected lines carried 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied snapshot lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspensions or attached import controls for these lines. The wider heading includes car-radio lines with different rates; see radios and DAB receivers.

Confirm the commodity code using the power source, clock functions and any combined sound recording or reproduction. Send the broker the manual, rear-panel photographs and functional specification. Zero duty does not remove import VAT; the UK import duty and VAT guide explains the calculation.

Specify the tuner, antenna and audio connections

Specify a separate hi-fi component or a combined receiver. Agree the tuning range and steps, manual tuning and station search, stereo and mono selection, preset retention and station-name display if offered. Define the antenna socket and supplied antenna, analogue output connections and level, any digital outputs, remote control and display dimming.

Approve reception on UK broadcasts using the antenna arrangement the customer will use. Compare the sample with a reference tuner in the same location. Listen through the intended amplifier for hiss, hum, channel imbalance and interference from the display or power supply.

Broadcast receivers fall under the Radio Equipment Regulations 2017 and need evidence on safety, electromagnetic compatibility and spectrum use; confirm the applicable conformity marking for Great Britain with the relevant product-safety authority. Electrical and electronic equipment is also within hazardous-substance restrictions unless specifically excluded. Request material compliance evidence for the tuner. Radios bring waste electrical and electronic equipment duties; producers must register annually.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: 50 standalone hi-fi FM tuners; illustrative order, not a quotation under 8527 99 00 00, invoiced at £12,000 free on board, with £600 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £12,600. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £12,600, so it is £2,520. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Reception: compare station search, tuning stability, stereo reception and weak-signal behaviour with the approved sample, using the agreed antenna. Repeat listening with the display and remote control operating.

Audio: connect the analogue and any digital outputs to the intended equipment. Check channel identity, balance, background hum, muting between stations and loose sockets.

Controls and assembly: check presets after disconnecting power, remote functions, display dimming, front-panel alignment and antenna socket security. Match accessories and carton contents to the approved packing list during inspection.

Documents and power: match the declaration of conformity and safety, electromagnetic compatibility and receiver reports to the supplied model. Check CE or UKCA marking, English instructions, the waste-equipment symbol and the mains plug or adapter against the approved sample.

What goes wrong

A tuner can find strong stations in a factory demonstration yet hiss or lose stereo reception with the buyer's antenna. Power-supply hum, interference from the display, unreliable station search and poorly secured output sockets can make the unit unsuitable for a hi-fi system. Record acceptance checks against the approved sample before production.

A matching front panel can conceal a changed tuner board or power supply. Ask the factory to identify the approved configuration and disclose substitutions before shipment. Compare bulk units with that configuration and check that their reports and declaration identify the delivered model.

Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For components and parts, see sourcing for manufacturers.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on hi-fi FM tuners from China?

The selected tuner variants carry 0% duty in the supplied tariff snapshot. It lists no trade remedies, suspensions or import controls for these lines. Confirm the code from the complete unit's functions.

Does an FM tuner need CE or UKCA marking?

Yes. Broadcast receivers fall under the Radio Equipment Regulations 2017. For Great Britain, obtain the relevant declaration and model-specific safety, electromagnetic compatibility and spectrum evidence alongside the marking.

Which commodity code covers a standalone hi-fi FM tuner?

Start with 8527 99 00 00 for an externally powered tuner without a clock or combined sound recording or reproduction. Confirm classification from the manual and complete functionality.

How should I test a Chinese hi-fi FM tuner?

Use UK broadcasts and the intended antenna and amplifier. Compare reception with an approved reference tuner, then check stereo stability, hiss, hum, outputs, station search and preset retention after power disconnection.
