Duty on hard-bodied fishing lures
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, hard-bodied fishing lures fall within other line fishing tackle under heading 9507, using 9507 90 00 00. Duty on goods from China is 2%, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measure and no suspension recorded. The table shows lure types sharing this commodity line, rather than separate tariff subdivisions.
The tariff attaches cat and dog fur import and export controls: imports and exports of that fur and products made from it are banned. Specify synthetic dressings if a lure has a dressed hook. It also lists a cultural goods export licence control; confirm its relevance with your customs broker if exporting the goods.
Confirm the commodity code using the finished lure, its materials and any bundled accessories. Separately supplied hooks should not automatically use the complete lure's code. See the wider fishing tackle guide for rods, reels and other tackle.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |

Specify buoyancy, swimming action and fittings
Specify body material, length, finished weight, floating, sinking or suspending behaviour, diving lip geometry, retrieve action and intended fresh or saltwater use. Agree the water conditions and retrieve method for checking performance. Keep an approved sample for each body design and colour.
Record ballast material and position, rattle arrangement, body joining method, line-eye construction, hook pattern, split-ring material and finish. Agree whether length excludes the lip and hooks. Specify paint adhesion, eye attachment and individual packing that keeps hook points away from the body.
For consumer sales in Great Britain, general product safety rules require safety in normal or reasonably foreseeable use. Review exposed hook points, detachable fittings and handling during unpacking; agree suitable hook protection and handling information.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 2,000 hard-bodied fishing lures; FOB and freight values are illustrative under 9507 90 00 00, invoiced at £14,000 free on board, with £1,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £15,000. Duty at 2% is £300. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £15,300, so it is £3,060. Import taxes total £3,360; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £300 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Action: swim samples against the approved lure under agreed conditions; check tracking, stability, buoyancy and that the hooks do not foul the body.
Seals: immerse samples, look for water ingress and compare weight and buoyancy before and after; inspect body seams and diving lips for cracks.
Fittings: pull-test line eyes and hook hangers to the agreed load; check split-ring closure, hook points and finish after the agreed corrosion exposure.
Arrival: inspect cartons for crushed trays, loose hooks, scratched paint and mixed colours; compare labels and contents with the order. Use the quality inspection guide to organise checks.

What goes wrong
A lure can match the sample's appearance yet swim differently because ballast has moved, the lip is misaligned or the hook weight has changed. Poor seams admit water and turn a floating lure into a sinking one. Loose line eyes and opening split rings can lose fish and leave detached hooks.
Make approval depend on swimming and attachment tests as well as appearance. Record accepted components and require agreement before substitutions. Separate damaged or leaking stock on arrival and photograph defects against the retained sample before discussing rework.
