Sourcing frozen arrowroot from China

Frozen arrowroot from China carries £7.90 per 100 kg across both relevant tariff lines, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty recorded. Imported frozen vegetables must meet the same hygiene standards and safety procedures as food produced in Great Britain. Check organic documentation and species-specific CITES requirements. Cambridge China Bridge sources frozen arrowroot.

Frozen arrowroot duty is charged by weight

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 4 October 2026, heading 0714 covers specified starchy roots and tubers, including frozen arrowroot. Peeled frozen arrowroot for human consumption in immediate packs not exceeding 28 kg falls under 0714 90 20 10; other arrowroot falls under 0714 90 20 90. Both carry £7.90 per 100 kg from China. No anti-dumping duty, countervailing duty or suspension is recorded. The table separates whole and sliced goods under these same tariff lines.

Both lines attach organic import control and CITES import and export controls. For organic imports from China into Great Britain, obtain a consignment certificate of inspection and check the exporter’s control body and export country against the non-UK organic registers. An approved UK organic control body must certify your food and business. For a CITES-listed specimen, obtain the applicable permit and corresponding exporting-country documentation. Confirm applicability to the declared botanical species with your customs broker before dispatch.

Confirm species, peeling, processing and immediate pack weight using our commodity-code guide. See the wider roots and tubers guide. The illustrative order uses a weight-based calculation because no relevant arrowroot line has a plain percentage duty. The figures illustrate an order and are not a quotation.

Specify the root, peeling and frozen format

Specify the botanical identity behind the supplier’s arrowroot name, with root photographs and a retained sample. State that the order is for frozen roots or slices. Agree peeling coverage, slice thickness, acceptable broken pieces, colour and the intended cooking use.

Agree whether pieces must remain individually separate, the inner-pack net weight and carton arrangement. Specify frozen storage at -18°C or colder, temperature recording and sealed bags that protect against dehydration. Request a cooked sample to assess texture and fibrous pieces.

Confirm food-business registration and applicable pesticide residue limits with the relevant food authority; request batch-linked laboratory evidence.

For retail packs, settle the English food name, net weight, storage instructions and UK address before printing. Confirm ingredient and allergen labelling requirements, including any single-ingredient exemption, with the relevant food authority. Match the pack description to the product actually supplied.

Inspection checklist

Identity and cut: compare roots and thawed slices with the approved sample; check peeling, thickness, discolouration, woody pieces and foreign matter.

Cold chain: check product temperature on arrival against the agreed -18°C or colder specification; review logger records and inspect for fused pieces, heavy ice and freezer burn.

Weight and seals: check product weight separately from loose ice; compare inner packs with the declared quantity and inspect bag seals, punctures and carton damage.

Batch evidence: match carton and bag lot codes with residue reports, packing records and any organic certificate of inspection; verify the agreed English label artwork.

What goes wrong

A supplier’s arrowroot name can leave the botanical identity unclear. Approving photographs alone also misses fibrous texture, uneven peeling and inconsistent slices. Retain a reference sample and assess a cooked sample before approving the shipment.

Fused pieces, excess ice and damaged seals can undermine usable yield and handling. Record temperatures, photograph affected packs and separate disputed stock while you assess it. Incomplete organic documents or unresolved CITES applicability should be addressed before dispatch.
