Sourcing Ferrovanadium from China

Ferrovanadium from China carries 0% UK import duty under 7202 92 00 00, with no listed trade remedy. Before importing into Great Britain, check UK REACH registration coverage and chemical supply labelling for the actual alloy. Specify vanadium content, impurity limits and fines. Cambridge China Bridge sources ferrovanadium.

Ferrovanadium duty and commodity code

Heading 7202 covers ferro-alloys. Ferrovanadium has the commodity code 7202 92 00 00. The table shows purchasing forms that share this tariff line. For the other alloy families, see our ferro-alloys guide.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, ferrovanadium from China carried 0% duty. The supplied tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, steel measure, tariff suspension or attached import control for this line. This tariff record does not settle chemical supply compliance.

Confirm the commodity code using the actual alloy composition and product description. Give your customs broker the batch analysis and packing details. For the tax calculation, see UK import duty and VAT.

Vanadium content, impurities and lump size

Specify vanadium content by weight, limits on carbon, phosphorus, sulphur, silicon and aluminium, and the accepted lump-size range. State the maximum fines content and the basis for reporting the analysis. Agree packaging, net weight and batch identification before approving the order.

Agree representative sampling at loading and arrival, sample preparation, retained samples and an independent laboratory to settle disputes. Ask for a batch-specific analysis rather than a generic grade certificate. Use the inspection guide to turn these acceptance points into an inspection brief.

For Great Britain, check UK REACH coverage for the constituent substances and your annual imports. HSE states that substances in mixtures require registration when aggregated imports reach 1 tonne per substance per year. Arrange a scientifically competent classification review. Suppliers are responsible for correct chemical labelling and packaging before sale. A safety data sheet is required when a hazardous chemical is supplied for workplace use.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: 1 tonne of bagged ferrovanadium for a trial order (illustrative) under 7202 92 00 00, invoiced at £30,000 free on board, with £2,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £32,500. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £32,500, so it is £6,500. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Analysis: compare representative batch samples with the agreed vanadium content and impurity limits.

Size: screen samples against the agreed lump range and fines limit; record oversized pieces and powder.

Traceability: match bag or drum identification to the batch analysis, packing list and retained samples.

Arrival condition: check net weight, broken seals, damaged packaging, moisture and mixed material before releasing the lot.

What goes wrong

A low vanadium result means the buyer receives less alloying content than expected. Excess carbon or other impurities can breach the intended melt specification. Too many fines, mixed batches and a certificate that does not identify the delivered lot make acceptance disputes harder to resolve.

Set out the sampling method, independent laboratory and rejection or adjustment process in the contract. Quarantine disputed material and retain samples and packaging photographs. Resolve chemical registration coverage and supply documentation before dispatch.

Frequently asked questions

What is the UK import duty on ferrovanadium from China?

The supplied tariff record shows 0% under 7202 92 00 00, with no listed anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspension or import control.

Does ferrovanadium need UK REACH registration?

Check constituent-substance coverage and annual tonnage. HSE states that mixture constituents require registration when aggregated imports reach 1 tonne per substance per year. Confirm the applicable route before importing.

Is a supplier's ferrovanadium analysis certificate enough?

Use it alongside representative sampling and independent analysis against the contract. Match the certificate to the delivered batch and agree which laboratory settles a dispute.

Is ferrovanadium covered by the UK carbon border adjustment mechanism?

The site's published ferro-alloys guide discusses the mechanism's iron and steel coverage. Confirm with HMRC or your customs broker whether ferrovanadium is excluded, using the actual commodity classification.
