Sourcing electronic organs from China
Electronic organs from China pay a flat 2% UK duty, with no anti-dumping duty. Confirm applicable electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility and WEEE requirements for mains-powered organs and adapters with the relevant authority. Check cabinet materials against the tariff's CITES control. Cambridge China Bridge sources electronic organs.

Electronic organ duty and material controls
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 30 September 2026, electronic organs under 9207 10 10 00 carry 2% duty on goods from China. The supplied tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing measure and no suspension. Heading 9207 covers instruments whose sound is produced, or must be amplified, electrically. The table shows organ configurations using the same organs line.
The tariff attaches CITES import and export controls and a cultural-object export licence measure. Obtain the cabinet timber species and confirm whether CITES documentation applies with your customs broker. For controlled Annex A or B specimens, official guidance requires a permit. Confirm the applicable documentation for the exact material before shipping from China.
Confirm the commodity code using the instrument's sound production and function. A keyboard with an organ sound setting should not automatically be treated as an organ. See the wider electric instruments guide for neighbouring product families and the duty and VAT guide for the calculation method.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Portable electronic organs | 9207 10 10 00 | 2% | None |
Specify the organ action, controls and sound
Specify the keyboard layout and action, sustained-note behaviour, organ voices, drawbars or equivalent controls, expression pedal, pedalboard compatibility and speaker arrangement. Agree whether the instrument is portable or supplied with a cabinet, bench and detachable pedalboard. Have an organ player approve the sample, including chord changes, sustained notes and changes between sound settings.
Confirm applicable electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility, CE or UKCA marking and WEEE requirements for mains-powered instruments and adapters with the relevant authority. Match the supplied adapter, declaration and reports to the ordered model. For electrical equipment within the safety regulations, the importer must ensure that instructions are in easily understandable English.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: 300 compact electronic organs, illustrative only under 9207 10 10 00, invoiced at £54,000 free on board, with £6,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £60,000. Duty at 2% is £1,200. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £61,200, so it is £12,240. Import taxes total £13,440; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £1,200 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Keys and pedals: play every key and pedal, hold chords and release them, and check for silent notes, sticking keys or notes that continue after release.
Controls and sound: sweep drawbars and expression controls, change registrations, test speaker and headphone outputs, and listen for crackle, hum and cabinet vibration.
Electrical evidence: match model identifiers across the organ, adapter, declaration and reports; inspect the UK plug, fuse and ratings, and check the English instructions.
Cabinet and packing: check joints, finish, pedalboard fittings and declared timber species. Inspect carton cushioning and repeat the playing checks after the agreed packed-product handling test. Use the inspection guide to define the inspection brief.

What goes wrong
A brief demonstration can miss stuck notes, intermittent pedal contacts and noisy drawbar controls. Sustained bass notes may reveal loose cabinet panels or speaker vibration. A replacement adapter or changed keybed can also make the delivered batch differ from the approved sample.
Write the approved configuration into the order and require agreement before component changes. On arrival, check cabinet corners and pedalboard alignment before assembly, then repeat the sustained-note, control and output checks. Photograph damage while the packing is still available.

What is the UK import duty on electronic organs from China?
The supplied tariff record gives 2% for organs under 9207 10 10 00, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measure and no suspension.
Is a keyboard with organ sounds classified as an electronic organ?

Play every key and pedal, hold and release chords, sweep expression and drawbar controls, and test speakers and headphones for hum, crackle and vibration.
