UK duty on disposable nonwoven beard snoods

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 21 November 2026, heading 6307 covers other made-up articles. For disposable nonwoven beard snoods, 6307 90 98 20 is the candidate line, carrying 6% duty for goods from China. The other table rows compare fabric constructions; they are not alternative declarations for an unchanged nonwoven snood. Confirm the commodity code using the finished sample, material, construction and intended use.

The supplied snapshot records no anti-dumping or countervailing duty on these lines. The suspension attached to the candidate nonwoven line is restricted to specified textile face masks; it does not provide relief for ordinary beard snoods. The nonwoven line also carries a supplementary import unit. Ask your customs broker to confirm the unit and declaration requirement before shipment.

The candidate line attaches CITES import and export controls, a torture-and-repression import prohibition and an export restriction. CITES permits concern listed-species materials; confirm any such materials and the required China-to-UK documents before shipment. Prohibited torture goods cannot be imported. Ask your customs broker to confirm how these attached controls apply to the actual snood and any onward export.

Specify beard coverage, elastic and hygiene use

Specify nonwoven fibre composition, fabric weight, colour, finished depth, opening size and elastic arrangement. Record the seam or weld construction and how the elastic is secured. Trial complete samples on the intended wearers, including fuller beards, checking coverage beneath the chin and around the sides during talking and head movement.

Food businesses must ensure staff wear suitable, clean protective clothing. Agree the snood with the customer's hygiene procedure and describe its intended use clearly. Keep respiratory, medical and wearer-protection claims out of the purchase specification unless separately assessed.

Agree single-use wording, pack counts, batch identification and packaging that keeps unused snoods clean during storage and dispensing. Ask for evidence before accepting low-shedding or detectable descriptions. For related products within the wider heading, see disposable nonwoven coveralls.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: 6,000 disposable nonwoven beard snoods; illustrative order and values only under 6307 90 98 20, invoiced at £800 free on board, with £800 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £1,600. Duty at 6% is £96. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £1,696, so it is £339.20. Import taxes total £435.20; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £96 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Coverage: compare dimensions with the approved sample and trial chin and side coverage during normal head movement.

Elastic and joins: check attachment security, recovery after stretching, broken welds, open seams and fabric tearing beside the elastic.

Fabric cleanliness: check holes, uneven material, loose fibres, stains, odour and foreign matter inside representative packs.

Packing and identity: check pack counts, batch identification, agreed wording and sealed packaging; record findings through the inspection process.

What goes wrong

A flat sample may look large enough but pull away from the chin when worn. Tight elastic can make wearers reposition the snood repeatedly, while weak elastic allows it to slip. Approve complete samples on the intended wearers and retain them for comparison with production.

Lighter replacement fabric may tear beside a weld or release loose fibres. Poor elastic anchoring can fail during dispensing or fitting. Damp cartons and open inner packs undermine clean handling. Hold affected stock apart and compare it with the approved specification before release.
