Sourcing copper roofing nails from China
Copper roofing nails from China carry 0% UK import duty, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measure listed. Specify solid copper and verify the material: copper-plated steel must not be treated as solid copper for classification. Cambridge China Bridge sources copper roofing nails.

UK duty on copper roofing nails
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, copper roofing nails under 7415 10 00 00 carried 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing measure, suspension or attached import control for this line.
Heading 7415 covers copper nails and other copper fasteners, and iron or steel nails with copper heads. The table shows roofing nail forms sharing the same commodity line, rather than separate tariff subdivisions. See copper rivets for another product family within the heading.
Confirm the material, head construction and finished product before choosing the commodity code. A copper-coloured coating does not establish that a nail is solid copper. Keep the supplier's material declaration and a cut sample with the order specification.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Copper roofing nails | 7415 10 00 00 | 0% | None |
Specify copper, head shape and roofing use
Specify solid copper, the agreed material grade and temper, nail length, shank diameter, head diameter and thickness, point shape, and smooth or annular shank. Agree dimensional tolerances in the drawing. Tell the factory which slate or roofing material and substrate the nail will secure.
Approve samples for driving and seating in the intended roofing assembly. Check that heads sit as intended without damaging the slate and that shanks do not buckle during the agreed installation trial. Specify pack contents, net weight and batch identification.
For sales in Great Britain, legitimately CE-marked construction products can continue to be supplied to the market. Confirm the conformity route for the exact nail and intended use before agreeing packaging claims; a copper material certificate alone does not establish that route.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 2 tonnes of copper roofing nails under 7415 10 00 00, invoiced at £22,000 free on board, with £900 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £22,900. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £22,900, so it is £4,580. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Material: compare the batch material certificate with the agreed grade, arrange composition analysis and cut samples to detect a steel core or copper plating.
Dimensions: measure length, shank and head dimensions against the drawing; check head centring, point shape and annular shank consistency.
Driving: trial samples in the intended substrate and roofing assembly; check bent shanks, cracked heads and damage around the fixing.
Packing: check pack weight or count against the order, batch labels and carton condition. Keep samples and results using the quality inspection guide.

What goes wrong
Copper-plated steel can be supplied as copper, leaving a rusting fixing beneath the slate. Other failures include undersized or off-centre heads, inconsistent shank dimensions and nails that bend during driving. Compare production samples with the approved drawing and installation sample.
A carton weight check alone cannot prove nail dimensions or material. Separate mixed sizes and suspect batches on arrival, then verify the material and repeat the driving check before releasing stock.
Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For repeat volumes, see container programmes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on copper roofing nails from China?
The supplied tariff record gives 0% for 7415 10 00 00, with no anti-dumping or countervailing measure listed.
How do I check roofing nails are solid copper?
Check the batch material certificate, arrange composition analysis and cut samples to expose any steel core. Colour alone is insufficient.
What should I specify for copper slate nails?
Specify material grade and temper, length, shank diameter, head dimensions, point and shank form. Approve a driving sample in the intended slate and substrate.
Are all copper roofing nail forms separate tariff codes?
The roofing nail forms shown share 7415 10 00 00. Confirm the finished product and material before declaring; the table does not represent separate tariff subdivisions.
