Sourcing cermets and AlSiC parts from China
Cermets from China, the metal-ceramic composites used for power electronics baseplates and wear parts, including aluminium silicon carbide (AlSiC) carrier plates and spacers, pay 0% UK duty on all five lines of heading 8113, with no anti-dumping duty. Buyers check thermal conductivity and expansion data, flatness, plating and dimensions.

0% duty
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 16 November 2026, heading 8113 covers cermets and articles thereof, including waste and scrap. All five lines carried 0% on goods from China, with no anti-dumping measure. The tariff names two aluminium silicon carbide parts for electronics separately.
Carbide inserts for tools are covered in our carbide inserts guide, and silicon carbide itself in our silicon and tungsten carbide guide; confirm the commodity code.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping duty on China |

| Cermets, unwrought | 8113 00 20 00 | 0% | None |
| Cermet waste and scrap | 8113 00 40 00 | 0% | None |
| Aluminium silicon carbide (AlSiC-9) carrier plates for electronics | 8113 00 90 10 | 0% | None |
| Aluminium silicon carbide (AlSiC) cuboid spacers | 8113 00 90 20 | 0% | None |
| Other cermet articles | 8113 00 90 90 | 0% | None |
Specifying cermet parts
Specify the material grade and its silicon carbide or ceramic content, thermal conductivity and coefficient of expansion with the test method, density, dimensions and tolerances from your drawing, flatness or bow, surface finish, and plating such as nickel with its thickness.
For power module baseplates, the bow and the plating adhesion decide whether the part solders to the substrate, so write them into the acceptance criteria.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: 2,000 aluminium silicon carbide baseplates for power modules under 8113 00 90 10, invoiced at £24,000 free on board, with £600 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £24,600. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £24,600, so it is £4,920. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Material: ask for the grade certificate and test data per lot, and verify on samples if the part is critical.
Geometry: measure dimensions and flatness or bow on samples against the drawing.
Surface: check plating thickness, adhesion, and cracks or porosity. See our quality inspection guide.

What goes wrong
Cermet orders fail on material properties, bow and plating. The ceramic content or conductivity differs from the datasheet, plates bow out of tolerance, and plating peels during soldering.
Cambridge China Bridge sources engineered materials and parts for UK electronics and engineering firms, with first-article samples approved before production. See product development.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on cermets from China?
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 16 November 2026, all five lines of heading 8113 carried 0% from China.
What is AlSiC?
Aluminium silicon carbide, a metal-matrix composite used for power electronics baseplates because it conducts heat and expands at a rate close to ceramic substrates.
Are carbide tool inserts classified here?
Inserts for tools are classified with tools; confirm the commodity code from the product.
What should I check on AlSiC baseplates?
Thermal data, flatness or bow, dimensions, and plating thickness and adhesion against the drawing.
