Sourcing Brass Threaded Studs from China
Brass threaded studs within heading 7415 carry 0% UK duty from China across the relevant tariff lines, with no listed trade remedies. Consumer products sold in Great Britain must be safe in normal or reasonably foreseeable use. Specify solid brass and verify thread fit. Cambridge China Bridge sources brass threaded studs.

Zero duty on brass threaded studs
Heading 7415 covers copper and copper-alloy fasteners, including brass threaded articles. For stud bolts, check the screws, bolts and nuts line against the actual drawing; other threaded articles have a separate line. The table also includes matching washers and retaining pins. See the wider brass machine screws guide.
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 1 October 2026, every supplied line carried 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied snapshot lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duties, suspensions or attached import controls. The duty range is therefore uniformly 0%.
Confirm the commodity code using the material, drawing and finished form. Brass-plated steel fasteners belong to the steel fastener heading rather than the copper-alloy heading. Import VAT is normally 20%; see UK import duty and VAT.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brass stud bolts and matching brass nuts | 7415 33 00 00 | 0% | None |
| Other copper-alloy threaded articles, subject to design classification | 7415 39 00 00 | 0% | None |
| Copper-alloy washers for stud assemblies | 7415 21 00 00 | 0% | None |
| Copper-alloy cotter pins for retained stud assemblies | 7415 29 00 00 | 0% | None |
Specify the alloy and each threaded end
State the brass grade and composition, material condition, overall length, thread diameter, pitch, tolerance and handedness. For double-ended studs, specify each end separately, including threaded length, plain shank, shoulders and any different thread forms. Define end chamfers, surface finish and whether plating is permitted.
Agree an assembly sample using the actual mating nuts and tapped holes. Specify the intended tightening method and service load, then agree suitable strength checks. For leaded brass or plated parts, obtain a supplier statement on restricted substances under UK REACH.
For studs supplied as consumer products in Great Britain, general product safety rules require safety in normal or reasonably foreseeable use. These rules cover products intended for, or foreseeably used by, consumers. Keep the intended use clear when assessing the finished product.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Labelled cartons of mixed-size brass stud bolts for a small business, illustrative only under 7415 33 00 00, invoiced at £2,500 free on board, with £900 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £3,400. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £3,400, so it is £680. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Material: compare the batch certificate with the ordered alloy, test sample composition and cut a sample to check for plated steel.
Threads: use agreed go and no-go gauges on each threaded end, check thread length and test fit with the actual mating parts.
Geometry and strength: measure overall length, shank and shoulders, check straightness and burrs, and carry out the agreed assembly and strength checks.
Packing: check size and batch labels, carton counts and protection against bent studs or damaged thread ends. Plan checks with the quality inspection guide.

What goes wrong
A stud may enter a nut yet bind before reaching its working position because the pitch, thread tolerance or usable thread length is wrong. Burrs and damaged lead threads make assembly difficult. Short threaded ends can leave insufficient engagement even when overall length matches the drawing.
Alloy substitution can change strength and machining behaviour; brass-plated steel can be mistaken for solid brass. Mixed lengths and bent studs cause further rejects. Approve the drawing and assembly sample, then repeat material and dimensional checks on the shipment.
Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For repeat volumes, see container programmes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on brass threaded studs from China?
The supplied UK Trade Tariff snapshot dated 1 October 2026 shows 0% across the relevant heading 7415 lines, with no listed anti-dumping or countervailing duties.
Which commodity code applies to brass stud bolts?
Check 7415 33 00 00, the screws, bolts and nuts line, against the drawing. Other threaded articles fall under 7415 39 00 00. Confirm the finished design and material before declaring.
How do I check that studs are solid brass?
Match the batch material certificate to the specified alloy, test sample composition and cut a sample to check for a steel core or brass plating.
What should I specify for double-ended brass studs?
Specify each end's thread diameter, pitch, tolerance and threaded length, plus overall length, shank, shoulders, alloy and finish. Test the sample with the actual nuts and tapped holes.
