UK duty on aluminium catering roasting pans

Heading 7615 includes aluminium kitchen articles. Roasting pans may fall under the cast, foil or other kitchenware lines depending on construction. The foil line covers articles manufactured from foil not exceeding 0.2 mm thick. The table separates common constructions; some designs share a commodity code.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 3 October 2026, the relevant lines carried 6% duty for goods from China. The supplied tariff data lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspensions or attached import controls for these lines.

Confirm the commodity code using the material, manufacturing method and foil thickness before ordering. See aluminium cookware for the wider heading.

Specify the pan for the oven and the load

Specify cast, pressed or foil construction, the aluminium alloy, base and wall thickness, internal depth and external dimensions including handles and rims. Check the actual catering oven and shelf fit. Agree the intended food load and whether the pan is disposable or reusable.

For coated pans, identify the coating supplier and request its declaration of compliance and migration reports for the finished pan. Agree the foods, oven conditions and cleaning method the evidence should cover. Confirm the applicable food contact safety and migration requirements with the relevant food safety authority. Use the food contact materials guide to organise the documents.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: 5,000 reusable aluminium catering roasting pans under 7615 10 80 90, invoiced at £30,000 free on board, with £2,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £32,500. Duty at 6% is £1,950. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £34,450, so it is £6,890. Import taxes total £8,840; a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim the VAT, so the lasting cost is the £1,950 of duty. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Dimensions: measure the rim, base, depth and handle projection against the approved drawing, then check oven fit and stacking.

Strength: measure base and wall thickness, check flatness after agreed heating trials, and test lifting with the agreed load. Check handles and fixings where fitted.

Food contact: match the alloy, coating supplier and finished-pan migration reports to the supplied product and batch. Record material or coating changes.

Finish and packing: check sharp rims, dents, splits and coating damage. Inspect nested trays for crushing and confirm that reusable pans separate without scratching. Arrange quality inspection before dispatch and repeat arrival checks.

What goes wrong

Thin bases can distort during heating, deep foil trays can buckle when lifted, and handles can loosen under a loaded pan. A rim that fits the drawing may still catch on an oven shelf. Approve samples in the buyer's intended oven and use the agreed load during handling checks.

Nested pans can arrive dented or scratched, while a changed coating can leave the original test report unrelated to the delivered product. Agree protective packing, keep an approved sample and require written notice of material or coating changes before production.
