Duty on agricultural manure spreaders

Heading 8432 covers agricultural, horticultural and forestry machinery for soil preparation or cultivation, including manure spreaders. Agricultural manure spreaders fall under 8432 41 00 00; qualifying parts fall under 8432 90 00 00. The table shows alternative spreader configurations sharing the manure-spreader code, rather than separate tariff subdivisions.

Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 18 October 2026, manure spreaders and parts carried 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied tariff record lists no anti-dumping or countervailing duty, suspensions or attached import controls for these lines. This tariff position does not replace machinery safety checks.

Confirm the commodity code using the machine's function, drawings and supplied configuration. Do not assume every separately shipped gearbox, shaft or chain qualifies as a machinery part. For the wider product family, see fertiliser spreaders.

Specify the manure, tractor and spreading mechanism

Describe the manure to be spread, including bedding, moisture and whether it contains compacted lumps. Agree body capacity, payload, loading height and unloading method. Choose the beater arrangement and floor conveyor against that material, and ask for a loaded demonstration using representative manure.

Match the drawbar, tractor power take-off connection, shaft speed, hydraulic connections and operating controls to the buyer's tractor. Record floor-chain specification, tension adjustment, gearbox protection, replaceable beater teeth and access for cleaning. Agree drawings and a spare-parts list before ordering.

For supply in Great Britain, machinery must meet the applicable machinery safety requirements. Check CE or UKCA marking, the declaration of conformity and English instructions against the exact model. Arrange testing and certification checks before approving production.

Worked duty example

Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative batch of compact trailed agricultural manure spreaders under 8432 41 00 00, invoiced at £21,000 free on board, with £2,500 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £23,500. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £23,500, so it is £4,700. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.

Inspection checklist

Drive and guarding: check power take-off shaft guards, beater protection, fixings and safe stopping arrangements against the approved design and instructions.

Loaded operation: check conveyor tracking, chain tension, smooth feed and spreading consistency with representative manure. Record bridging, stalls, vibration and gearbox leakage.

Body and running gear: inspect floor alignment, welds, drawbar attachment, axle mountings, tyres and hydraulic hoses. On arrival, check for transport distortion and loose or missing fittings.

Documents and spares: match model identification, conformity marking, declaration and English manual. Check that replacement teeth, chains, bearings and seals match the supplied parts drawings.

What goes wrong

An empty running demonstration can conceal conveyor stalls and manure bridging. An uneven floor or badly adjusted chain can cause skewed feeding, while an unsuitable beater arrangement can leave lumps and an uneven spreading pattern. Make loaded operation part of the agreed acceptance checks.

A spreader can arrive with a shaft or hydraulic connection that does not match the buyer's tractor. Transport can also bend guards or shift conveyor alignment. Recheck connections and clearances after unloading, and resolve missing guards or mismatched safety documents before use.
