Sourcing aerobatic aircraft from China
Aerobatic aircraft candidate lines under heading 8802 carry 0% UK duty from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty recorded. Confirm UK-recognised airworthiness evidence and the certification and registration route before ordering. Cambridge China Bridge sources aerobatic aircraft.

Aerobatic aircraft duty and attached controls
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 7 October 2026, the listed aircraft lines under heading 8802 carry 0% duty from China, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duty or suspension recorded. The heading covers crewed aircraft and spacecraft. For aerobatic aeroplanes, check unladen weight and civil use. The heavier rows are classification comparisons, rather than suggested purchases.
The tariff attaches an ozone-depleting-substances restriction; other-use lines also attach fluorinated greenhouse gas import control. Importing ozone-depleting substances into Great Britain requires a licence. Request extinguishing-agent and refrigerant details, and ask your customs broker to confirm the requirements for installed equipment. Pre-charged equipment can be incorporated into another product, and equipment placed on the market must comply with fluorinated-gas product bans.
The tariff also attaches a DCMS Export Licence measure. Cultural-object imports into Great Britain have no licensing requirement under that regime; ask your broker to confirm the relevance of the attached export measure. Confirm the commodity code using the model, unladen weight, intended use and delivered configuration. See the fixed-wing training aircraft guide for wider heading guidance.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Civil aeroplanes, unladen weight not exceeding 2 000 kg | 8802 20 00 10 | 0% | None |
| Other aeroplanes, unladen weight not exceeding 2 000 kg | 8802 20 00 90 | 0% | None |
| Heavier comparison: civil aeroplanes, unladen weight over 2 000 to 15 000 kg | 8802 30 00 10 | 0% | None |
| Heavier comparison: other aeroplanes, unladen weight over 2 000 to 15 000 kg | 8802 30 00 90 | 0% | None |
Specify the aerobatic configuration and evidence
Describe the intended aerobatic manoeuvres and request the corresponding limitations in the aircraft's flight manual. Specify the airframe variant, engine, propeller, seating, harnesses, control system and instruments. Ask how the fuel and lubrication systems support the proposed manoeuvres, including inverted flight where intended. Request the equipment list, weight and balance records, maintenance instructions and component histories.
Before ordering, have an aviation specialist confirm the UK-recognised airworthiness evidence and the certification and registration route for the proposed aircraft. Reconcile the proposed configuration with its supporting documents. Agree who handles dismantling, preservation, packing, reassembly and arrival acceptance. A sourcing inspection does not establish UK-recognised airworthiness.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: Illustrative order: a crated civil aerobatic aircraft for a small aviation business, subject to classification confirmation under 8802 20 00 10, invoiced at £50,000 free on board, with £5,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £55,000. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £55,000, so it is £11,000. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Identity and records: match airframe, engine and propeller identifiers to the contract, flight manual and maintenance records; investigate substitutions and unexplained gaps.
Structure and restraints: have an aviation specialist assess wing attachments, control-surface hinges, landing gear, harness anchorages and visible repairs against the manufacturer's documentation.
Controls and systems: ask the specialist to check control movement and rigging, fuel and oil connections, hose routing, wiring protection and agreement with the specified configuration.
Packing and arrival: photograph crate damage, inspect wing and propeller supports, check corrosion protection and account for detached components before reassembly.

What goes wrong
A supplier's aerobatic claim may not match the delivered configuration or the limitations documented for it. A different propeller, engine or fuel-system arrangement can leave the buyer comparing the aircraft with irrelevant evidence. Make configuration and document reconciliation a purchase acceptance condition, and resolve discrepancies before shipment.
Incomplete maintenance histories and unexplained structural repairs make condition harder to assess. Poor supports can damage wings and control surfaces during transport. Retain dispatch photographs, arrange an aviation specialist's arrival assessment and keep damaged components aside until assessed. Customs clearance does not establish airworthiness.
Cambridge China Bridge sources these products for UK businesses, checking the factory and the documents before shipment. See factory verification. For machinery and equipment, see machinery imports.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on aerobatic aircraft from China?
The listed candidate aircraft lines carry 0% duty from China. No anti-dumping or countervailing duty or suspension is recorded. Confirm the exact code using unladen weight, civil use and configuration.
Can I fly an imported aerobatic aircraft after customs clearance?
Customs clearance does not establish airworthiness. Before ordering, confirm UK-recognised airworthiness evidence and the certification and registration route with an aviation specialist.
Does an aerobatic sales description prove inverted-flight capability?
Request the flight manual limitations and evidence for the exact engine, propeller, fuel and lubrication configuration. Have your aviation specialist compare them with the manoeuvres you intend to fly.
Which weight determines the aircraft commodity code?
The listed aircraft branches use unladen weight, rather than maximum take-off weight. Give your broker the weight documentation, model description, intended use and delivered configuration.
