Sourcing acoustic insulating glass from China
Acoustic insulating glass units from China carry 0% UK duty across heading 7008. For building use, obtain the declaration of performance and product marking, with acoustic test evidence matching the ordered glass make-up. Cambridge China Bridge sources acoustic insulating glass units.

UK duty on acoustic insulating glass units
Read from the UK Trade Tariff on 2 October 2026, heading 7008 covers multiple-walled insulating units of glass. Acoustic units are classified by their glass treatment and sealed construction. The supplied tariff lists only the commodity lines shown here. See the double-glazed units guide for the wider heading.
All listed lines carry 0% duty for goods from China. The supplied tariff records no anti-dumping or countervailing duties, suspensions or attached import controls. Acoustic performance does not create a separate tariff line.
Confirm the commodity code using the pane count, coatings and cavity construction. The line for other sealed units with two panes includes air, other gases and a vacuum. Complete framed windows are classified by their frame material, as explained in the wider guide.
| Goods | Commodity code | Duty | Anti-dumping or countervailing duty on China |
|---|---|---|---|
| Acoustic sealed units with tinted, opacified, flashed or coated glass | 7008 00 20 00 | 0% | None |
| Other acoustic sealed units with two panes and an air, gas or vacuum gap | 7008 00 81 00 | 0% | None |
| Other acoustic insulating glass units, including triple glazing | 7008 00 89 00 | 0% | None |
Specify the acoustic glass make-up
Specify each pane's thickness, glass type, acoustic interlayer where used, cavity width, gas fill, overall thickness and coating position. Include the cutting list, size tolerances, spacer and edge seal system. Agree the acoustic performance required for the intended noise source, and ask for a report identifying the tested glass make-up and specimen arrangement.
For insulating glass units intended for buildings, confirm with the relevant authority whether BS EN 1279-5 applies and what declaration of performance and marking are required. CE marking remains available for construction products placed on the Great Britain market. Obtain the declaration and supporting production evidence before ordering. Use testing and certification support to check that the documents cover the product supplied.
Worked duty example
Illustrative example, not a quote: 1,200 acoustic insulating glass units, illustrative only under 7008 00 81 00, invoiced at £36,000 free on board, with £6,000 of freight and insurance to the UK. The customs value is £42,000. Duty at 0% is £0. Import VAT at 20% is charged on the customs value plus duty, £42,000, so it is £8,400. With no duty, the only import tax is the VAT, which a VAT-registered importer can usually reclaim. The import duty and VAT guide explains each step.
Inspection checklist
Acoustic evidence: compare the report's pane thicknesses, interlayer, cavity and specimen arrangement with the purchase specification. Ask the supplier to explain any difference before approving production.
Dimensions and identity: on arrival, measure sampled units against the cutting list, check overall thickness and coating position, and match labels to the specified glass make-up and performance documents.
Seals and appearance: check for interrupted edge seals, displaced spacers, trapped moisture, scratches and chipped edges. Compare the actual spacer and sealants with the agreed seal system.
Packing: check units stand on edge in braced racks or crates, with separators and corner protection. Record broken units and damaged packaging before unpacking the rest. Set the sampling and acceptance brief through quality inspection.

What goes wrong
A supplier may quote an acoustic result for a different glass make-up, then substitute ordinary laminated glass or change the cavity. A report for a complete window can also be mistaken for evidence covering the sealed unit alone. Put the tested configuration in the order and approve substitutions before production.
Weak edge seals cause misting, inaccurate sizes prevent fitting, and unbraced packing causes breakage. Keep acoustic evidence, dimensional checks and seal checks in the same inspection brief. Ask the installer to review the proposed frame, seals and fitting details before accepting the glass specification.

Frequently asked questions
What is the UK import duty on acoustic insulating glass from China?
The supplied UK Trade Tariff data, read on 2 October 2026, gives 0% duty across the listed heading 7008 lines, with no anti-dumping or countervailing duties.
What acoustic test report should I request?
Request a report identifying the tested pane thicknesses, interlayer, cavity and specimen arrangement. Compare these with your order and establish whether the result covers a sealed unit or a complete window.
Do acoustic insulating glass units need marking?
For building use, confirm with the relevant authority what declaration of performance and marking are required for the insulating glass units under the construction product rules. CE marking remains available for the Great Britain market.
Is acoustic laminated glass the same as an insulating unit?
No. A laminated pane alone is different from a sealed insulating unit with a cavity. Specify the complete assembly and check that the acoustic evidence describes that assembly.
