Sourcing wooden crafts from Cao County
Start with Cao County’s craft and furniture cluster around Pulianji and Qinghe, then shortlist suppliers against your product brief. Arrange workshop access and finished samples before travelling, and check how approved designs will be repeated. Cambridge China Bridge can coordinate this through its own staff in China.

Use the cluster map to focus your search
The official forestry account distinguishes Zhuangzhai’s board-making cluster from the craft and furniture cluster around Pulianji and Qinghe. For finished wooden gifts and homeware, start your supplier search around the latter. Consider board processors where your brief needs a material supply discussion, rather than assuming they manufacture finished gift ranges.
The account provides a geographical starting point, not an endorsement of individual suppliers. Send shortlisted businesses photographs or drawings of your intended products and ask which processes they perform themselves. Use our wooden boxes and carved ornaments guide for product-specific buying checks.
Match suppliers to custom or repeat work
For custom work, ask who turns your drawing into a sample, how revisions are recorded, and whether carving, assembly, painting and printing happen on site. Request examples using comparable shapes, joints and finishes. An attractive catalogue item does not demonstrate that the supplier can develop your design.
For a repeat range, ask to compare retained samples from separate production runs and review how the supplier records materials, finish recipes and packaging. Discuss replenishment by item, mixed-range orders and discontinued components. Assess custom development and repeat consistency separately, even when the supplier offers both.
Book working production sites before travelling
Ask for the production address, showroom address and a named contact for each appointment. Confirm that relevant work will be running and that you can meet the people responsible for sampling and production. Group appointments by confirmed location and allow time for travel and follow-up discussions. Our factory visit preparation guide covers the general visit brief.
At the workshop, follow the product from incoming wood or board through cutting, assembly, sanding, finishing and packing. Ask where drying and finished-stock storage happen, how moisture is checked, and which stages are subcontracted. Record any stages you could not see and arrange separate evidence or access before treating the visit as complete.
Make finished samples part of the visit
Arrange for relevant finished samples to be ready before you arrive. Distinguish existing catalogue samples from samples made to your brief and pieces taken from current production. Compare grain, colour, surface smoothness, joints, lid fit, hardware and decoration. Ask to see the proposed retail packaging as well as the unpacked item.
Agree acceptable natural variation with physical examples, including knots, grain and colour differences. Record corrections and identify each sample against its specification revision. Follow our bulk production and sample guide to turn that approval into a production reference. A showroom selection alone leaves the repeat-order standard unclear.

Turn the visit into an order decision
Request comparable quotations using the same material, construction, finish, decoration and packing brief. Ask suppliers to identify assumptions and proposed substitutions. Keep a decision record showing development capability, processes observed, sample defects, subcontracting and unresolved questions. Resolve those questions before authorising production.
State the intended use clearly, especially if the item will touch food or is intended for children. Our homeware and kitchenware guide covers the food-contact questions rather than treating every wooden item as decoration. Cambridge China Bridge’s own staff in China can coordinate shortlisted visits, sample corrections and follow-up checks against your brief.
Frequently asked questions
Where should I look for wooden craft suppliers in Cao County?
Start around Pulianji and Qinghe for finished crafts and furniture. The official account distinguishes this cluster from Zhuangzhai’s board-making cluster. Check each supplier’s actual product and process fit.
Can Cao County suppliers make my own wooden gift designs?
Assess each supplier through comparable work and a sample brief. Ask who develops the sample, which processes are in-house and how revisions are controlled before commissioning your design.
Should I visit the workshop or just the showroom?
Arrange both. The showroom helps you compare finished products; a working production site lets you examine the processes, storage and subcontracting behind them. Confirm access before travelling.
What samples should be ready for my factory visit?
Request relevant catalogue items, samples made to your brief and current production pieces where available. Include proposed packaging, and record which sample represents the agreed production standard.
