Marketplace holding my money: can I reorder?

Keep held proceeds outside your available-cash budget. Check the account notice and current policy, ask support to confirm the release conditions, and record what evidence remains outstanding. Approve a reorder only if accessible funds cover its payment stages and your business reserve. Discuss factory options with Cambridge China Bridge.

Identify what is actually being held

Open your seller account directly and save the hold notice, settlement report and relevant policy wording. Establish whether the issue concerns particular orders, a retained reserve, account verification or a payout already sent but missing from your bank. Record the affected amount and case reference. These are questions to investigate, rather than an assumed explanation for your hold.

The Small Business Commissioner advises reviewing marketplace terms and policies. Ask support to identify the wording applied to your account. Use our first marketplace payout reconciliation guide to separate held proceeds from fees, refunds and other deductions before requesting a release.

Turn release conditions into a written checklist

Ask what must happen before release, which evidence is missing and how acceptance will be confirmed. Clarify whether a displayed date means review, release eligibility, payout initiation or expected bank receipt. Ask whether release covers the whole held balance or only eligible transactions, and whether later sales could also be retained.

Keep a release log using the fields below. Submit requested documents through the verified account channel and retain upload confirmations. Ask whether anything remains outstanding after submission. A document upload or completed delivery does not establish that the platform has accepted the evidence or scheduled payment.

Replace expected proceeds with accessible cash

Start with cleared bank cash you can use. Deduct existing commitments and protect money for operating bills, taxes, refunds and your contingency reserve. Exclude the held balance from the order-approval case. Show any expected release separately as a conditional receipt, with its source and unresolved conditions, rather than treating the seller dashboard balance as spendable money.

The Insolvency Service advises allowing for payment delays. Use the overlapping-order cash-flow guide for the shared payment calendar. Check the proposed reorder without the held receipt, then compare a delayed or partial-release case. Do not deduct a cost again if it is already included in your commitments.

Resize the reorder before paying a deposit

Give the factory your revised cash limit and request a fresh quotation for a smaller repeat batch, fewer variants or simpler packaging. Confirm the repeat minimum and carton multiples using trial and repeat-order terms. Ask for written payment milestones and clarify whether a staged release still commits you to the full order.

Test the complete revised order against accessible cash at every payment stage, including the balance, freight, checks, import charges and receiving costs. Use low-sales reorder planning to check which variants need replenishment. If no workable batch fits, postpone the commitment and record the stock gap you are accepting. Cambridge China Bridge's staff in China can discuss factory options against your budget.

Follow up and reassess after money arrives

If a stated review date passes or the reply leaves conditions unclear, follow up in the existing case with the notice, submission confirmations and unanswered questions. Request a case review or use the provider's complaints route. Ask about partial release where relevant, without budgeting for it until confirmed. Keep the supplier informed before an agreed payment milestone is missed.

When a payout reaches your bank, reconcile it against the settlement report and refresh available cash. Check whether a reserve remains and whether future proceeds face the same conditions. Reassess the reorder against current stock, demand and the revised quote. Receiving the delayed payout is a reason to review the budget, rather than automatically restoring the original order.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my first marketplace payout on hold?

Check the account notice and applicable policy. Ask support which transactions are affected and whether the issue is a reserve, verification, order evidence or a payout transfer. Do not infer the reason from another seller's experience.

Does uploading tracking release my money?

Ask whether tracking satisfies your specific hold condition and whether the platform has accepted it. Separate evidence submission, review, release and bank receipt.

Can I use held marketplace money for a reorder?

Exclude it from accessible cash. Approve only commitments that your available funds can cover while protecting business expenses and your reserve.

What if my supplier minimum exceeds my cash budget?

Request a smaller repeat batch, fewer variants or revised payment milestones. Check the full commitment and complete costs. If no option fits, postpone the order and plan for the stock gap.
