Can I use Chinese exterior cladding on my UK home?
Yes, if the chosen cladding and complete wall design are suitable for your home. Before ordering, have your designer settle the fire, weather and fixing details and agree the evidence and approval route with building control. Factory paperwork alone is insufficient. Cambridge China Bridge can obtain supplier documents with its staff in China.

Start with the home and the complete wall
Give your designer the address, building use, height, boundary relationships, existing wall construction and proposed coverage. Ask your building-control adviser to identify the applicable requirements, application route and any planning questions. The fire guidance discussed here applies to England; for a home elsewhere in the UK, ask your local adviser to identify the relevant guidance before selecting materials.
Have the designer issue a wall section naming the facing, core, backing, insulation, membranes, cavity, cavity barriers, rails, brackets, anchors and seals. Include corners, openings and the junctions with the roof and ground. Our construction materials guide covers product declarations and marking. This guide adds the project decision: whether the supplied components work together in the proposed wall.
Approve the fire evidence for the proposed arrangement
In England, designers must ensure that the external fire spread requirement is satisfied. Ask your designer to record the applicable material restrictions and fire performance criteria for your particular building. Do not assume that calling a panel decorative makes it suitable. Government guidance identifies a ban on metal composite panels with an unmodified polyethylene core on new buildings at any height.
Request complete classification and supporting test reports, with product identity and the scope of permitted use. Have the designer compare the tested material, core, thickness, coating, backing, joints, orientation and mounting with the proposed installation. Ask whether reaction to fire evidence is sufficient and what additional wall or fire resistance evidence is needed. Use our test report verification guide to check report authenticity.
Ask for drawn cavity barrier and fire stopping details at the locations the designer identifies, including interfaces around openings. Resolve how these details interact with drainage and ventilation. Require written assessment of any difference between the proposed wall and the supporting evidence before accepting the combination.
Approve drainage and weather resistance
Government moisture guidance includes walls, damp proofing and ventilation. Ask your designer to explain how this wall sheds wind-driven rain, drains water that passes the facing and manages condensation. Review joints, flashings, window sills, penetrations, cavity drainage and membrane continuity. A waterproof panel sample does not demonstrate that the assembled wall keeps water out.
Request evidence relevant to the proposed joints and wall construction, then have the designer specify any further testing. Review thermal movement, freezing conditions, sunlight exposure, sealant compatibility and maintenance access. For a physical mock-up, include a corner or opening and the actual fixing arrangement; record what the mock-up checks and what remains dependent on calculations or test evidence.
Approve fixings into the actual supporting wall
Government cladding guidance addresses wind-loading calculations and structural design. Have the designer or structural engineer approve the load path from the panels through the rails and brackets into the supporting wall. Ask for project-specific checks of wind pressure and suction, panel weight, support spacing, edge zones and movement allowances. A factory's generic fixing sketch is only an input to that review.
Identify the actual masonry, concrete or framed substrate and its condition. Ask the engineer whether anchor evidence matches it and whether site pull-out tests are needed. Specify anchor type, embedment, edge distances, bracket arrangement and installation method in the drawings. Agree corrosion resistance and compatibility between metals, particularly where the site is exposed to salt or persistent moisture.

Close the approval pack before releasing the order
Collect the designer's released drawings, evidence references, calculations, installation instructions and written building-control comments. Record conditions, unresolved questions and who will close them. Distinguish an adviser's review from the building-control body's decision, and ask what formal approval and site checks remain. Our construction submittal guide helps organise the project submission.
Only release production when the technical owner has cleared the purchasing hold points. Use our translated drawings guide to give the factory matching instructions. Freeze component identities and revisions, require written approval for substitutions, and agree inspection against that pack. Cambridge China Bridge can coordinate factory documents and checks through its staff in China; your project advisers assess suitability for the home.
Frequently asked questions
Does CE or UKCA marking mean cladding suits my home?
Do not use marking as your project approval. Have your designer review the declared performance against the complete wall design, site conditions and proposed installation, then resolve the evidence with building control.
Is a fire test on the panel enough?
Ask your designer to check its scope against the core, coating, backing, joints and mounting you will use. Obtain their written decision on additional evidence for the wall and its cavity details before ordering.
Can my installer choose the cladding fixings?
Have the designer or engineer specify the fixing design for the actual substrate and site loads. Ask the installer to confirm it is buildable and to refer proposed changes back for approval.
What should I get approved before paying a deposit?
Clear the purchasing hold points for the wall drawings, fire evidence, weather details and fixing calculations. Record building-control comments, outstanding conditions and the exact components the factory will supply.
