How to export leather belts from the UK to China
To export leather belts to China, agree the import route and exact tariff line with your buyer before shipping. Belt lines carry 6% MFN duty, while standard import VAT is 13%; cross-border retail has specific eligibility conditions. Cambridge China Bridge’s own staff in China find and check Chinese importers and distributors for UK brands.

Settle the route for your belts before shipping
For leather belts and accessories, agree whether your buyer needs stock for distribution or a cross-border retail route, then confirm the product-specific import requirements with your buyer. The category spans HS6 420310, 420321, 420329, 420330 and 420340. The largest UK export line was 42033000, belts and bandoliers of leather or composition leather, at £755k in 2025; the broader category total is not a belt-only market measure.
HMRC recorded £1.4m of UK goods exports to mainland China under HS 420310, 420321, 420329, 420330, 420340 in 2025 (2024: £1.8m, -25.7%). Exports to Hong Kong under the same codes were £6.3m. January to July 2026: £429k against £706k in the same months of 2025 (-39.2%).
Price against the Chinese tariff line
The 2026 Customs Import and Export Tariff gives both Chinese belt lines, 42033010 and 42033020, an MFN rate of 6%. Apparel under 42031000 also carries 6%; the glove and other accessory lines below carry 10%. Match each item to its Chinese line before agreeing a price, rather than applying the belt rate across your range.
Standard import VAT is 13%, subject to the VAT Law’s exceptions. Its base is the customs value plus customs duty plus consumption tax. The importer’s customs broker or adviser confirms whether consumption tax applies to these belts. Border taxes add to landed cost and therefore shape the price the importer can offer you.
| Chinese tariff line | Rate |

Check the cross-border retail entry and leather species
The cross-border retail import list includes 42031000, 42032100, 42032990, 42033010 and 42034000. Eligible imports through bonded 1210 or direct 9610 are supervised as personal-use articles, without first-import licence, registration or filing requirements. Exceptions apply to goods from suspended epidemic areas and goods subject to emergency quality or safety risk handling. Match the precise item to the list entry before choosing this route.
Each listed entry carries a wildlife restriction: goods in the wildlife-species import/export catalogue are excluded if they cannot provide the certificate from China’s endangered-species import/export management office confirming that the species is outside that catalogue. Give the buyer the leather-species details so it can assess this condition before arranging cross-border sales.
The overseas cross-border business bears primary responsibility for product quality and safety. It must appoint a mainland-registered company to register with customs, declare truthfully and share civil liability. The retail limits are RMB 5,000 per transaction and RMB 26,000 annually per person. Build these conditions into your discussion with the buyer before selecting the channel.
Prepare the UK declaration for each shipment
For exports from England, Scotland or Wales, obtain a GB EORI and classify each item under the correct UK commodity code. The online export declaration needs the value, weight, packaging, destination, transport details, and invoice and packing list references. Give the carrier the invoice and any required export licences or certificates. Keep belt and glove descriptions distinct so the declaration reflects what is actually shipped.

Find a Chinese buyer and check it before committing
Our own staff in China find and check Chinese importers and distributors for UK brands. If an importer has already approached you about your belts, our staff in China check that company before stock is sent or anything is signed.
Use the buyer discussions to settle the exact Chinese tariff line, distribution or retail route, and the leather-species information needed for the cross-border list condition. Have the importer’s customs broker confirm product-specific requirements before committing to packaging or shipment.
We prepare registration and label work with licensed partners in China. The importer of record and any required cross-border e-commerce agent remain licensed partners in China; your own filings remain yours. See our export-to-China service.
