Can I change delivery details after China dispatch?

You may be able to change the UK address or recipient after dispatch, but ask the booking party to obtain the carrier’s approval. Check whether customs details are affected and get written confirmation of charges and revised delivery arrangements before treating the change as accepted. Discuss your request with Cambridge China Bridge.

Find out who booked the shipment

For a personal order, start with your order confirmation, tracking reference and shipping invoice. Ask the seller or sourcing contact who holds the transport booking: the seller, an agent, a forwarder or you. Identify the international carrier and the UK delivery provider, and ask who is authorised to instruct each.

Send the request through that booking contact. Ask whether the carrier accepts recipient instructions directly or needs the booking party’s approval. Updating your shopping account address is not evidence that an existing shipment has been redirected.

Request an authorised reroute

Provide the order and tracking references, original delivery details, proposed address and postcode, recipient name and telephone number. State whether you are changing only the receiving location, only the person accepting delivery, or both. Ask what identity checks or written authority the carrier needs, using its verified contact channel.

Ask where the goods are and whether the change can still reach the delivery team. Request a hold while the proposal is checked, if available, and ask what happens if rerouting is refused. Do not send competing instructions to the seller, depot and driver; nominate a contact to coordinate the accepted change.

Check the customs details separately

Ask the person handling customs clearance to compare the proposed change with the invoice and declaration. Explain whether the purchaser remains the same and whether the new recipient is simply accepting delivery for them. Ask which records need correcting and what amendment route applies at the shipment’s current stage. Our customs documents guide covers the underlying paperwork.

For a cleared Customs Declaration Service import declaration, HMRC says importer details cannot be changed unless they are incorrect. If you want a different person to become the importer, ask the clearance contact to assess that request separately before authorising the reroute. Do not assume that changing the delivery label changes the declared importer.

Agree charges and workable delivery arrangements

Request a written breakdown of any address-change, rerouting, storage, handling or redelivery charges. Ask who pays, whether payment is needed before the change is actioned, and which further charges could arise. If the amount is provisional, agree how additional costs will be authorised before accepting the proposal.

Confirm the new recipient’s availability, access and receiving instructions. For bulky goods, check whether the revised address suits the vehicle and unloading plan; our part-load or full-truck delivery guide covers those checks. Ask for the revised delivery window and whether it is estimated or confirmed.

Obtain confirmation that the change is actioned

Request written confirmation naming the shipment, accepted address and recipient, approving party, agreed charges and revised delivery arrangements. Ask whether the UK delivery provider has received and actioned the instruction, and whether the original delivery booking has been cancelled. An acknowledgement that your request was received is not confirmation that the reroute is complete.

Keep the request, approval, payment record and updated tracking together. Check the next tracking update and investigate any reference to the original destination with the booking contact. If the goods have already arrived at the wrong location, use our wrong-address delivery guide for the next steps.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change my China order’s address after shipping?

Possibly. Ask the transport booking party to obtain carrier approval, check customs implications and confirm the accepted address, charges and revised delivery arrangements in writing.

Can someone else receive my China parcel?

Ask the carrier what authority or identity checks it needs. Explain whether the person is only accepting delivery for you, and ask the clearance contact whether any customs details are affected.

Will changing the delivery address cost extra?

Ask for a written quotation covering the change and any handling, storage or redelivery. Confirm who pays and how further charges will be authorised; do not assume the original delivery price covers rerouting.

Does changing my account address redirect my parcel?

Do not rely on it. Obtain confirmation for the specific shipment that the carrier has accepted the change and the UK delivery provider has actioned the revised instructions.
