Confirm the importing buyer before ordering

Mali's government-published Code of Commerce says only individuals or legal entities approved for that purpose may carry out goods import or export operations. For a commercial purchase, identify the importing business and ask your own customs broker to confirm its approval before committing to production.

Ask the broker to confirm the import-intention application, banking arrangements and any product-specific certificates or labelling checks for your goods. Mali Customs states that import intentions are issued to named holders and cannot be transferred. Keep the buyer's identity consistent across the order and the documents your broker reviews.

Name the seaport or border point in the quote

Mali is landlocked. Tell us the seaport or border point you want quoted, your final delivery location and who will arrange the onward journey. The quotation should name the handover point and delivery term, and identify the freight, insurance and handling included. Agree the onward leg separately.

Ask your forwarder to map the journey through the coastal country and into Mali, including handovers and charges outside our quote. The overseas buying guide explains the wider service. Use the Ghana guide and Algeria guide for purchases destined for those markets; have your broker assess your Mali route separately.

Agree the document pack with your broker

Send your broker draft documents before shipment. We coordinate with the Chinese factory to provide the commercial invoice and packing list, arrange the certificate of origin where requested, and collect existing test reports or arrange agreed testing. Check product descriptions, buyer and seller names, quantities, carton marks, weights and the named delivery point against the actual order.

Ask the broker which originals, issuing bodies and report formats are acceptable for your product. Match test reports to the supplied model, materials and configuration. Send proposed labels for review before printing, and obtain the transport document from the freight provider. Agree responsibility for each document in writing.

Check the supplier and inspect the goods in China

Our own staff in China check the supplier's business identity, production location and ability to make the specified goods. We establish whether the seller manufactures the product or places it elsewhere, review relevant production and test evidence, and agree an approved sample and written specification with you.

Before shipment, we inspect production against the agreed specification and sample, including workmanship, function, quantities, labels and packaging. We report discrepancies for your decision and agree corrective work before release. Factory audits and inspections are usually included in the quote; complex checks that need a third party are charged separately and agreed in advance.

Your broker handles arrival and final entry

Mali's Customs Code requires imported goods to receive a detailed declaration assigning a customs procedure, unless otherwise provided. Appoint your own customs broker to prepare the entry, confirm classification and valuation, calculate applicable duties and taxes, coordinate customs queries or examination, and arrange release and local delivery within the agreed scope. Your broker confirms the final entry.

For the buy-through-a-UK-company service, send Cambridge China Bridge the product specification, quantity, importing buyer's details, broker's document checklist and named seaport or border point. We use that brief to agree the supplier checks, inspection scope, document responsibilities and transport boundary before quoting.
