Buying a personal pendant or fall alarm from China
Before ordering, get the intended monitoring service to accept the exact model and confirm its connection route. Agree a home test that proves alarm receipt, speech where provided, backup power and the response plan. Hold acceptance until failures are resolved. Supplier checks in China can be coordinated by Cambridge China Bridge.

Get the monitoring service’s agreement before ordering
Ask the intended monitoring service whether it accepts privately imported equipment. Send the exact pendant, base unit, software version and connection details. Obtain written confirmation of the supported configuration, who will register it and who will maintain it. Government commissioning guidance notes that different versions of digital telecare standards can cause problems. A factory’s compatibility claim needs confirmation from the service receiving the alarm.
Establish whether alerts reach a staffed monitoring centre or only relatives’ phones. Agree who responds, what happens when nobody answers and how help gains access to the property. Check that your relative can wear, charge and operate the device. Use our product certification guide for document checks alongside this service acceptance process.
Confirm the connection at your relative’s home
Ask the telephone provider what service is installed and tell it that your relative will use a personal alarm. Have the alarm supplier and monitoring service confirm the exact digital-landline setup, including any router or adaptor. Do not accept a successful ordinary telephone call as proof that alarm signals reach the monitoring centre correctly.
For a mobile alarm, ask which UK networks and frequency bands the exact variant supports, how it carries alarm data and speech, and who supplies and renews the mobile subscription. Test reception where the device will be worn, including intended outdoor use. Ask what happens if its preferred network is unavailable. For app-dependent functions, follow our UK activation guide.
Check backup power across the complete alarm route
Government guidance warns that telecare connected to a digital landline may not work during a power cut. List everything needed to deliver an alert: the wearable, base unit, router and any separate network equipment. Ask which parts have backup power and which connection remains available when mains power fails.
Request documented battery endurance under the intended operating conditions, charging instructions, low-battery warnings and replacement arrangements. Agree the backup period with the monitoring service around your relative’s needs. A battery inside the base unit leaves the route unproven if other essential equipment loses power. Ask who receives power-loss or connection-loss warnings and who acts on them.
Agree a commissioning test before relying on it
Write the test plan with the monitoring service before purchase and book the home test with it. Keep existing support in place during testing. Activate the manual button from the rooms and outdoor locations your relative will use. Have the receiving operator confirm the correct person, address and alarm type, then check speech in both directions where provided. Record the result at the receiving end, rather than just the device’s light or sound.
For fall detection, use the manufacturer’s safe test method agreed with the service; never ask your relative to fall. Test cancellation and escalation. With the provider’s agreement, simulate mains loss and connection failure separately, confirm the intended backup route, then restore normal operation. Record the configuration, expected result, actual result and operator confirmation. A staged demonstration cannot establish that every real fall will be detected.

Make acceptance and ongoing support explicit
Agree who pays for registration, monitoring, connectivity, installation, replacement batteries and repairs. Put failed-test remedies and any payment linked to commissioning in writing before ordering. Our supplier payment checklist covers the wider purchase checks. Keep service acceptance separate from factory inspection: the home test establishes the alarm route under the recorded conditions.
Leave your relative and responders clear instructions for wearing, charging, manual activation, accidental alarms and outages. Name who checks the equipment and arrange repeat tests with the service after changes to the router, telephone provider, mobile subscription or device software. Cambridge China Bridge’s staff in China can coordinate exact-model evidence and supplier checks; home commissioning needs the intended monitoring service.
Frequently asked questions
Will my monitoring service accept a pendant from China?
Ask before ordering. Send the exact model, base unit, software and connection details. Obtain written acceptance and registration instructions from the service that will receive the alerts.
Will a personal alarm work on a digital landline?
Confirm the exact alarm, router and telephone-service combination with the supplier and monitoring service. Commission it at the home and verify alarm receipt. An ordinary phone call does not prove alarm compatibility.
Will a fall alarm still work during a power cut?
Check backup power for every essential part of the alarm route and the availability of its connection. Agree a supervised power-loss test with the monitoring service, including receipt of alerts and restoration.
How do I test a fall alarm safely?
Use the manufacturer’s safe test method agreed with the monitoring service. Never ask your relative to fall. Confirm receipt, cancellation and escalation, and retain manual activation instructions.
