Getting started

TikTok Shop UK: sourcing products from China

Brief a China agent against the product you will actually list, check category eligibility and safety evidence before ordering, then trial a small batch in UK stock. Reorder against sales, returns and confirmed replenishment capacity. Cambridge China Bridge sources for UK sellers with its own staff in China.

Turn a trend into a buying brief

Use your shop's searches, customer questions, sales and returns to shortlist products. A popular video is a lead to investigate, not a purchasing forecast. Ask your China agent to compare the demonstrated function, likely complaints, packed size, available variants and replenishment options. Set a cash exposure you can absorb if demand fades.

Send the agent your intended listing, demonstration script and target customer alongside the product specification. Ask them to identify actual manufacturers, distinguish stocked goods from goods awaiting production, and report substitutions before you approve them. Cambridge China Bridge's e-commerce seller service provides a starting point for that brief.

Check TikTok eligibility before buying

In TikTok Shop UK's Policy Centre, check prohibited, unsupported, restricted and invitation-only categories before paying for samples or stock. Open the relevant category guidance and inspect the compliance fields in your seller account. Ask the agent for the documents those fields request, matched to the proposed product rather than a similar factory model.

TikTok's UK guidance says product images and videos must accurately represent the goods, and package weight and dimensions must be accurate. Photograph the approved sample, weigh the packed item and reconcile the listing with its contents. Check current policies again before launch because TikTok says its policies may change.

Build the Great Britain safety and label pack

For Great Britain, official general product safety guidance says the aim is that only safe products are supplied. Start with the intended use and product category, then agree the relevant evidence before ordering. Our CE and UKCA guide explains markings and supporting documents. Northern Ireland follows different rules, so assess that destination separately.

Official importer guidance identifies traceability as important for accountability. As a practical buying checklist, approve artwork showing the manufacturer and importer details, a product or batch reference, and applicable warnings and instructions. Link the reference to supplier records, inspection results, safety documents and warehouse receipts. Have the category-specific label requirements checked before printing; do not assume this checklist is complete.

Identify the responsible role for the product category before commissioning a generic responsible-person service. For cosmetics supplied in Great Britain, official guidance requires a Responsible Person with a UK established address. Confirm who will perform that role. For other products, ask which category-specific duties apply and who holds the supporting evidence.

Make the first batch a controlled trial

Ask the factory to quote a trial using an existing product configuration, with packaging suitable for sale and fulfilment. Keep optional customisation separate so you can see what prevents a small order. The MOQ and sampling guide covers sample approval and factory minimums; use our small-order service to brief the purchase.

Agree what makes the trial successful before ordering: acceptable function and appearance, accurate packing, evidence matched to the product, and manageable customer complaints. Inspect the production batch against the approved specification. Keep a retained sample and record listing changes prompted by the trial. Scale only after reviewing sellable stock, returns and actual contribution after fulfilment costs.

Prepare reorders before a video takes off

Ask the agent to confirm available finished stock, material availability, production capacity and the next feasible dispatch window. Keep the approved product, packaging and document revisions together. Require written approval for changes to materials, components, factory or artwork rather than allowing a quick reorder to become a different product.

Set your reorder trigger from sellable UK stock, committed customer orders, recent demand and the confirmed replenishment process. Include inspection, freight, clearance and warehouse receipt in that calculation. Separate faster replenishment from routine replenishment in the quote. Review the trigger after promotions and returns; stop buying when the demand evidence weakens.

Deliver stock to you or a UK fulfilment warehouse

TikTok's UK shipping policy defines local-to-local fulfilment as shipment to the customer within the UK. Plan the China shipment as stock replenishment to your premises or a UK third-party fulfilment warehouse. Before booking freight, agree the delivery address, customs arrangements, receiving contact, booking process, carton labels and who releases received stock for sale.

At your premises, plan receiving checks, storage, packing and returns handling. For a warehouse, obtain its intake specification before factory packing: product references, scannable labels, carton contents, delivery format and stock-reporting process. Test order import, dispatch tracking and returns handling before promotion. Keep damaged, returned and unapproved stock separate, and publish only inventory you have confirmed as sellable.

Frequently asked questions

Can a China agent find products for my TikTok Shop?

Yes. Give the agent your intended listing, customer use, budget exposure and fulfilment destination. Ask for manufacturer options, samples, product evidence and a replenishment plan before choosing.

How small can my first China order be?

Ask what the factory can supply in the approved configuration. Existing materials and simpler packaging can help. Agree a trial you can absorb financially, then reorder after reviewing sales and returns.

Do I need a UK Responsible Person?

Check the product category. Cosmetics supplied in Great Britain require a Responsible Person with a UK established address. Identify the applicable role and duties before paying for a generic service.

Can my China agent ship directly to a UK warehouse?

Yes, arrange it before packing. Give the agent the warehouse intake specification, booking details and receiving contact. Agree customs arrangements and reconcile the receipt before releasing stock for sale.
