How to export Security systems from the UK to China
Classify each system, check whether it falls within CCC certification scope, and agree the import route and landed cost with your Chinese buyer before shipping. Some alarm products require third-party certification. Cambridge China Bridge’s own staff in China find and check Chinese importers and distributors for UK brands.

Choose the import route for each system
Security and alarm systems span HS 8530-8531 (7 subheadings), covering signalling equipment, alarms, indicator panels and parts. These codes are absent from the cross-border e-commerce retail import list, so plan a conventional import route with your buyer. Check the exact model’s CCC scope before committing stock.
These figures are UK exports under HS 8530-8531 (7 subheadings). HMRC recorded £39.8m of UK goods exports to mainland China under 7 HS6 subheadings in 2025 (2024: £23.1m, +72.5%). Exports to Hong Kong under the same codes were £11.3m.
January to July 2026: £29.7m against £21.5m in the same months of 2025 (+38.1%). Within UK exports under HS 8530-8531 (7 subheadings), the largest UK export line was 85311030, burglar or fire alarms and similar apparatus for use in buildings, at £13.0m. These are code totals, which can include other products.
Resolve CCC certification before shipment
The CCC reference table matches fire alarm products, intrusion detectors and burglar alarm controllers to 8531100000, using third-party certification. A code match is a reason to check the model’s catalogue scope; it does not mean every item under HS 853110 needs the same treatment. For products within scope, confirm certification requirements and their timing with the Chinese authority or the importer’s customs broker. Allow months, not weeks, for approval; the Chinese authority decides.
Price against the Chinese tariff line
The verified Chinese tariff lines have the MFN rates below. HS 853180 splits between Chinese lines with different rates, so a broad description such as “signalling apparatus” is insufficient for costing. Duty and import VAT add to the importer’s landed cost and shape the price it can offer your brand.
The VAT Law sets a standard import VAT rate of 13%, subject to its exceptions. Import VAT is calculated on the customs value plus customs duty plus any applicable consumption tax. The importer’s customs broker or adviser confirms whether consumption tax applies to the system and the VAT treatment for the shipment.

Prepare the UK export declaration
Find the correct UK commodity code for each system or part. Exports from England, Scotland or Wales need a GB EORI and an online export declaration. Prepare the value, weight, packaging, destination, transport details and invoice and packing list references. Give the carrier the invoice and any required export licences or certificates; agree who will make the declaration before dispatch.

Check the importer before agreeing supply
Ask a prospective importer how it will handle the model’s CCC scope, Chinese tariff classification and landed cost. For building alarms under HS 853110, establish who will arrange any required third-party certification before agreeing shipment. Use the company’s answers to decide whether the proposed supply arrangement is workable.
Our own staff in China find and check Chinese importers and distributors for UK brands. If an importer has already approached you, our staff check that company before stock is sent or anything is signed. See our export-to-China service.
We prepare registration and label work with licensed partners in China. The importer of record stays with licensed partners in China, and the brand’s own filings stay the brand’s. We check the proposed work with those licensed partners.
